Eurofound: Paths towards independent living and social inclusion in Europe

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) has recently published a report examining national deinstitutionalisation strategies across EU Member States. The objective of these strategies is to facilitate a transition in care and support from institutional settings to family and community-based models. The provision of services in local environments allows for greater individualisation of care, social inclusion and independence for care recipients. However, the report identifies challenges, and features case studies and showcases best practices to support the successful implementation of community-based care models. IR Share served as the national correspondent for this study, contributing data on France’s approach to care and deinstitutionalisation efforts.

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) has released a report studying the unemployment and minimum income benefits for working-age individuals across the European Union. This report delves into the social protection frameworks in each Member State, assessing the accessibility, adequacy, and effectiveness of support provided to unemployed individuals, particularly those in low-income brackets. The study provides insight into the challenges faced by social protection systems in meeting evolving needs, particularly with the rise of digitalisation. France's social protection system is one of the focal points of this analysis. IR Share, Eurofound's national correspondent, contributed detailed data on the French model, identifying both its strengths and areas where it falls short. The report concludes with recommendations for strengthening social protection systems across the EU.

Developments in working life in 2023

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) has published individual country reports on the main developments in industrial relations and working conditions in the 27 EU Member States and Norway. These country reports are the only sources of information available for monitoring developments in these countries, in terms of social dialogue, collective bargaining, working time and initiatives regarding employment contracts, reducing the gender pay gap, health and safety, and work-life balance. Just transition partnerships: Involvement, challenges and opportunities

Multistakeholder partnerships are essential to ensure that the green transition is not only environmentally sound and economically viable but also socially just. This policy brief investigates how relevant actors (national and regional authorities, the social partners and civil society organisations) are pursuing a green and just transition using a partnership approach in eight European regions facing particular challenges as a result of the phase-out of fossil fuels. Based on case studies, the policy brief examines how the actors involved perceive the just transition and identifies partnership practices that work and those that warrant improvement. It also describes how the regions see the future of partnership for a just transition in the medium and long terms and draws policy pointers from the evidence gathered. IR Share produced the case study on the Territorial Just Transition Plans in the French Hauts-de-France region.

Research at the FORBA institute specialises in issues of work and employment. Within this clearly defined profile, it covers a broad range of topics and activities. FORBA’s research areas deal with the micro level of the individual, social interaction and working conditions and the meso level of the organisation or network as well as with the macro level of the labour market and global economy. Research practice at the institute relies on a series of qualitative and quantitative methods. Special features of research at FORBA include its multidisciplinary character and openness to many forms of cooperation. 

RILSA

The main RILSA objective of the scientific research activities is to contribute to the understanding and forecasting of the socio-economic development of society and to prepare documents and recommendations for state administration authorities, especially the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, on the basis of both applied and basic research. The scientific research activities of the RILSA are mainly focused on labour and social areas. Comparisons of international employment and social policy indicators are an integral part of the research.
