The European Commission has put forward a proposal to amend Directive 2004/37/EC, which concerns the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens, mutagens, or reprotoxic substances at work. This new initiative updates Annexes I, III, and IIIa of the Directive by adding new substances and adjusting existing limit values.
The proposed changes aim to reflect the most recent scientific evidence and align occupational exposure limits with recommendations from key health and safety bodies. These updates are especially relevant for industries where workers are routinely exposed to dangerous chemicals, reinforcing employers’ obligations to monitor, assess, and reduce risks.
By anticipating regulatory changes early, companies can better protect their workforce and avoid costly non-compliance.
