France: Bill introducing the ‘contrat de génération’ (Generation contract)

On 12 December 2012 the Council of Ministers passed draft legislation to introduce "generation contracts", and thus transpose into national law the National interprofessionnel agreement of 19 October 2012.
It requires companies with 300 or more employees to conclude an agreement or implement an action plan by 30 September 2013. According to the bill, the proposal aims to facilitate the integration of young people into the labour market by affording them access to a fixed-term contract, to encourage the employment and retention of older workers and to ensure the transfer of knowledge and skills. An analysis by IR Share of the draft bill put forward by the government in September 2012 is available on the Eurofound website.
