Report on Progress on equality between women and men in 2013
On 14 April the European Commission published its annual report on the equality of women and men which demonstrated that "concrete progress has been made in the area of addressing the gender pay gap".
However, "at the current rates of progress, it will take almost 30 years to reach the EU's target of 75 % in employment, 70 years to make equal pay a reality and 20 years to achieve parity in national parliament," the Commission announced. The pay gap still stagnates at 16.4 % Europe-wide. Worse than that, the gender gap in pensions stands at 39 %. Women represent on average 17.8 % of board members in the largest publicly listed companies, and 2.8 % of CEOs.
